Black Star Built is a Newport-based carpentry business serving homeowners across Melbourne's inner west and inner north. We take on the smaller, detail-driven carpentry projects that builders tend to pass on. Heritage homes, outdoor structures and building performance upgrades, scoped properly and finished to a standard that lasts.
Our Services
-
Melbourne's inner west and inner north are full of Victorian, Edwardian and interwar homes with timber details worth preserving. We work on these homes with an understanding of how they were built and how to match existing detail without it looking wrong. Weatherboards, fascias, porch timbers and trims repaired or replaced with respect for the original work.
-
Older homes lose heat, let in moisture and deteriorate in ways that aren't always obvious. We offer practical upgrades that improve how your home performs. Draught sealing, weather resistant barriers, moisture management, high performance window and door replacements and insulation fitting. Technical work, done carefully.
-
We build decks, pergolas, screens and custom outdoor seating designed to suit Melbourne's conditions and the way you actually use your space. Every project is tailored to the site and finished with the same care and attention we bring to everything we do.
-
We provide small-scale renovation carpentry within existing homes, focused on non-structural upgrades and improvement works. This includes internal alterations, minor layout changes and carpentry tasks that support renovation projects without requiring structural modification or full building oversight.
Our work is best suited to projects with a clearly defined scope, staged improvements, or targeted upgrades where attention to detail and coordination with existing finishes are essential.

Some small decks, verandahs or structural repairs may require a permit depending on their size, height or distance from boundaries. We don’t handle permit applications directly, but once approvals are in place, we can carry out all carpentry work safely and in compliance with local building standards.

We approach every project with the same level of detail you’d expect in high-performance construction. From accurate timber framing and precise WRB (weather-resistant barrier) installation to careful window fitting and flashing, each step is carried out to protect the structure from moisture and movement. By combining correct building methods with quality materials, we ensure every element inside or out performs reliably for years to come.
